Physicians for Rural Areas Assistance Program
Physicians interested in loan repayment up to $25,000 who currently practice in a Georgia county with a population of 35,000 or less are eligible to apply for the Physician for Rural Areas Assistance prgoram. Priority of applicant specialities is: General Pediatrics, any provider of obstetrical care (OBGYN or FP with OB), General Surgery, General Psychiatry, Family Medicine, General Internal Medicine or other specialties as approved by the Board.
Physicians receiving funding are required to practice full time (40 hours/week) for one year in a Board approved county. Contracts are awarded for one year and are renewable for a maximum of four years of funding or a maximum of $100,000.
ALL application materials are due to the SMEB office by November 1st of each calendar year. Awards are made each year at the December meeting. The PRAA Bulletin and a map of eligible communities can be found below. Updated application materials will be posted during the summer.
